Hotels in Gibraltar tend
to be relatively expensive and to be booked up early, as there are fairly
few of them. There are places just across the frontier which will be
cheaper and easier to get rooms at (see below), but here are some of the
better ones in Gibraltar itself:
 |
The Elliot Hotel is in
the centre of town, so you don’t have to climb up a
sheer rockface every
time you go back to your room. It’s also just round the corner from the
church, and probably the most modern hotel in Gibraltar. Official room
price is £109 (1 person) / £119 (2 people).
Website at
www.ocallaghanhotels.com/eliott.
Note that we are already arranging some family rooms here, as it's
closest to the Cathedral, and have been told that we can probably get a
discount on any further rooms, so let us know if you're interested. |
 |
The Rock Hotel is half
way up the Rock. It has the best views, the best reputation, and
definitely the highest prices. Official room price is £175. Website at
www.rockhotelgibraltar.com. |
 |
The Caleta Hotel is,
architecturally, a Stalinist monstrosity of concrete that probably only
survives because it would take an atom bomb to demolish it. It’s
also tucked round the back of the Rock next to a building site, rather
near town (which is on the other side of the Rock). That said, the
rooms seem perfectly decent inside, and it’s cheaper than the other two,
starting at £70. Website at
www.caletahotel.gi: though if
you use this note that whereas "sea view" really does mean the sea right
under your window, and nothing else, "rock view" translates as "view of
a cliff, from the bottom". |
The
three above are the main hotels on the Rock and are all graded 4* by the
RAC, whatever that means. There
are some smaller and cheaper hotels - let us know if you
want some details of these.
Across the border, on the
seafront of La Linea, are two hotels:
 |
Iberostar City Hotel has just
opened and is less than five minutes’ walk from the frontier.
€49 per person.

 |
AC
Hotel is somewhat further
along the seafront: website at
www.achotellalinea.com,
though prices weren't available when we checked this. |
These are only the nearest places to stay. Further into Spain, there
will be plenty more, and almost certainly cheaper, options if you want
them. In particular, if you’re coming in a group and want to stay for
longer, you may be better off hiring a villa somewhere in the region. |
